October 2021 Exhibition

The people and experiences I have had in my life over the past year have been so inspiring. I am so grateful to be able to pull from all these inspiring moments and create a world of stolen inspiration. I want to steal moments of freedom, joy, and artistic release. I want to steal the moments and curate a world of hope and passion through my work. I want to push myself and others to look at how much inspiration you can find in the world around you. You are not required to rely solely on yourself. You can be an ispiration thief. Observe the moments and search for what inspires you and steal that moment, make it your own, and share it with the rest of the world. Because we all need to be inspired and we are all so inspiring.

I'm Gonna Need a Cigarette for This One

When dropping my sister of at college in Austin, Tx, we went to the farmers market where we met this man. He was giving free poems to people asking only for a prompt. He didn’t allow you to pay or tip him, he was just providing these poems. We stood there and talked for quite a while with this man. As we talked to him I was feeling so inspired by his creative journey and the way he wanted to share this poetry with as many people that were open to receiving it. As I gave him my prompt, I realized our minds were going into our own worlds when creating. We were entering into this place of creation that was not seen, but felt. This is a place that you either fall into or consciously chose to go to. Sometimes you don’t feel it at al and sometimes you don’t feel anything aside from it. When he looked at me to begin my poem and I looked at him with anticipated eyes he said, “I’m gonna need a cigarette for this one.” And I could see he entered into that creative space.

A Foolish Grin

It feels very personal to enter into this world. It’s a world that doesn’t exist outside of you… until you present it through handing someone your poem or putting your art on a wall with an artist statement like this one attached. It can feel foolish to let this many people into such a deep personal part of yourself. You just want to hold that world all for yourself but is that what is foolish. Sharing this world with everyone is terrifying. As he handed me my poem, he asked me to read it to him. He stood up and listened as I said it out loud and he closed his eyes and listened to his words, a result of this moment where he entered his world and chose to create it and share it. This is my world and if you have made it to the end of this statement, I am so glad to have gotten to share it with you.
